Spyware removal

Spywares are those deadly hazards which merit your attention more than anything else, even more than viruses. Spyware removal is a multi step process. These steps include preparing for the removal first, then taking back-up of system files, preventing spyware from running, checking for other problems, removing all the suspicious and unnecessary data, and finally get the clean and perfectly working system.

Initiate the removal process by disconnecting the affected machine from other computer set-ups. It is very important to have your computer disconnected from the net while you are trying to remove the spyware from the system. Also ensure that all the basic programs are ready on a CD or other available media.

Have a support for your system on any bootable removable media. Using disk image technique and better keep it out side the system, if the system is devoid of CD or DVD players then you can either use an external form or copy that part at a concealed hard disk part, next step involves prevention of spyware from operating.

Boot your system in Safe Mode, where you can enter by clicking on F8, test the local hosts file and if there are items whose address varies from 127.0.0.1, remove them, test My Network Places and eliminate each and every doubtful thing, change the administration password for the router, if the system is connected to a router. Checkout the scheduled tasks for other apparent spyware, confirm that Windows Explorer is exhibiting all the hidden and system files. Again, re-boot the system through Safe Mode. Before removing and deleting anything, ensure that Spyware is the only problem with the computer.

Re-boot and dart an anti-virus program from a bootable CD at this particular stage as this is the perfect time to do so. Eliminate the somewhat candid Adware through Add/Remove Programs of the Control Panel, then boot as usual. Look out for any spyware that might have been auto-started using a process monitor. Spyware might get an idea that it has been detected and its course was being concluded so it can use separate names and run from different spots at every startup, jot down the underlying EXE, reboot to DOS or the Recovery Console and rename this file, make a Restore Point in Windows XP.

Neither of the mounted nasty software should be running at this stage, involuntarily at the time of system start-up and the machine should be free of viruses. This is the time to run a volley of anti spyware programs. Various anti spyware programs exist, which are generally available free of cost. Few standard ones are Spybot, Spy Sweeper, AdAware, etc, Ultimately your system is free of all spyware.
