Anti Spyware
Last few years have been witness to a number of software applications from many programmers and commercial firms created to remove or block the action of spyware. Among many others, two programs have found their way to immense popularity on the virtue of effectiveness against spyware - these applications are Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and Patrick Kolla's Spybot Search & Destroy.
An anti spyware, as the name suggests, is supposed to fight malicious spyware on many fronts including prevention and removal. While this field was supposed to be lead on the front by anti virus biggies like Symantec and McAfee, enhancing their existing anti-virus products by adding anti-spyware features. These large companies were somewhat reluctant to add anti-spyware functions, citing lawsuits brought by spyware authors against the authors of web sites and programs which described their products as "spyware". Even Microsoft acquired the Giant Anti-Spyware software, renaming it as Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta and releasing it as a free download for Windows XP users.
Anti spyware space is occupied by some genuine and also not-so-genuine software developers. These not-so-genuine companies used a very nasty strategy to boost their product sales. A poor web surfer would come across some innocuous looking pop-up ads informing that the system is infected with spywares. This trap makes the computer user poorer by some dollars ranging from 20 to 50. Another type of trap used by these fake applications is to offer you a free scan of your system. Trust, this scanner will show your computer not infected, but infested with spywares. Naturally, the user gets scared of this, and pays for the anti spyware to remove these nasty little things, which really never existed on your system. And not only that, these programs actually place many more spyware on your system, really hurting the system. Users have found that the performance of their systems has actually declined after installing such nasty software. When a Windows computer has been infected by a large number of pieces of spyware, the only remedy may be to back up documents and other user data, and fully reinstall the operating system.
Another safer way to use an anti spyware is to change your web browser. Internet explorer from Microsoft has been the most assaulted web browser by hackers community, making it most vulnerable to web attacks. Your may switch to Mozilla, Opera, etc to avoid these spyware and other malicious wares spreading from the net.
