However commonplace and barren the child's little world might seem to the sated mind of the adult, it never so seems to him. It is quite as much a world of make-believe as of fact, and his imagination makes his every desert blossom as the rose. His chief limitations are in his sense of de­pendence and helplessness, his instinctive fears, and his realization of his need of protection. His means of expression are limited, and he seeks ways by which they may be increased.
