Most silks should never be washed.
In pressing, watch out for scorching, especially on silks. Wool can stand more heat. Do not flatten out pile materials by pressing too heavily.
To press out seams in wool, lay a dry cloth on the seam. Dampen the cloth over the seam, and then press.
The fullness at the top of a sleeve may be shrunk out by using a dry cloth for silk and a damp cloth for wool. Use only the point of the iron to press.
Many materials are combinations of different textiles. Others have weaves which make preshrinking inadvisable. Some cottons do not have fast colors, and it may be best to use salt in the water to keep the color from running.

Children's Clothing
There is no essential difference between making children's and adult's clothes. All of the proportions and appropriate trimmings are taken care of in the pattern. Follow the pattern with the same attention to instructions that you give to a pattern for your own garment.
