Baste the open edges of the welt below the pocket line with the lower half of the pocket, and stitch 1/8 inch from the line.

Baste the upper half of the pocket above the pocket line and
stitch 1/8 inch from the line (Fig. 68).
Slash between the stitching and draw the pocket through the
opening.
Sew the ends of the welt to the garment (Fig. 69).
7. Stitch the two parts of the pocket together.
Steps for making the patch pocket:
Finish the top of the pocket with facing, hem, or binding (Fig.
70).
Turn under the sides and bottom of the pocket. Baste and press
(Fig. 71).
Baste in the proper position on the garment, and edge-stitch
(Fig. 72).
Hems
It is necessary that the hem of a garment should be straight, and an even distance from the floor, unless the specifications call for an uneven hem line. The uneven hem line is usually used for evening dresses, or for dresses made of very soft material, and gives a flowing appearance to a garment. Follow the pattern carefully to achieve this effect.
