pattern. Be sure to watch carefully the pocket locations when it becomes necessary to alter the length of the garment. The steps for making a bound pocket are as follows: Mark where the opening of the pocket is to come with a row of basting stitches (Fig. 62). Baste a piece of bias fabric on the right side. Cut out the pocket and baste the lower half on the inside so that the top comes 1/2 inch above the basting showing the pocket opening (Fig. 63). Stitch 1/8 inch from basting, showing opening on both sides and across ends. Slash through the bias binding, garment, and lower half of the pocket along the line marked for the opening. Cut diagonally to the corners of the garment (Fig. 64). Draw the binding through the slash to the wrong side and baste. Stitch the top half of the pocket to the top of the opening along the first line of sewing. 8. Stitch the upper and lower half of the pocket together (Fig. 65). Steps for making the welt pocket: Mark the position of the pocket opening with a line of basting (Fig. 66). Stitch both ends of the pocket welt, reverse, and press (Fig. 67).
