PLACKETS
Great care must be taken in making a placket. It should be very neat and as inconspicuous as possible. Be careful not to stretch the edges, as this would cause ugly bulges. The following are various types of plackets:
A simple placket at the seam of a skirt. Face the right side of the
opening with a thin material and stitch the edge. Sew an underlap of
material an inch and a hall wide to the left side of the opening. Line this
underlap with a thin material. A strong fastening such as hooks and eyes
should be used at the top of the placket. Use snaps for closing the rest
of the placket. Place as close together as necessary to keep the skirt from
gaping (Fig. 38). If there is no strain on the placket, snaps may be used
for the top closing.
A placket under a fold or plait. Cut along the crease of the under
fold to the regular depth of the placket. Bind both edges with thin bias
material. The outer fold of the plait may be stitched, leaving the under
portion free to serve as the underlap of the placket (Fig. 39).
