ALTERATIONS Before the material is cut, the pattern should be measured to your figure. On all good patterns the proper places for alterations to fit the figure, such as the lengthening or shortening of waist, skirt, and sleeves, are clearly shown on the pattern and described in the directions. CUTTING Pin on each piece of the pattern exactly as shown in the directions. Be sure that the fabric is perfectly straight and smooth, with no wrinkles or bulges. Carefully mark on the fabric all the perforations and notches according to the pattern and instructions. If you are using the dining room table, protect the surface with newspapers. The scissors should slide along the surface with the fabric lifted as little as possible. Do not deviate from the pattern, keep an even motion, and cut with the middle of the blades of the shears.
