If I Had a Baby Girl
If I had a baby girl, I would not dress her in pink all the time. Pink is just not our best color. We would just have to find beautiful blue and green dresses instead. If I had a baby girl, I would not ever allow her to dress like a miniature Christina Aguilera or whoever is in style in a few years. I believe the little girl is an endangered species being replaced by something called a “tween” invented by advertising executives.
If I had a baby girl, she would learn to go camping and fishing with her daddy and her big brother. She would know all about animals and learn how to ride a horse between playing house and stripping all the clothes off her Barbies. If I had a baby girl, I would make sure she learned all about music and art and the value of a great book.
If I had a baby girl, I would make sure she grew up feeling loved and valued and beautiful. Her daddy would worship the ground she walked on and she would learn that in life there are some men who are decent, honorable people. If I had a baby girl, I would do my best to keep from trying to live through her. I had my chance to be a little girl once and made my own choices.
If I had a baby girl, I would do everything I could to help her become a strong, caring, intelligent woman. What parent doesn’t want the best for their child? But even when she is grown up and has kids of her own, I know she will still be my very own baby girl. How do I know? Because I’m still one too.
