Don’t Forget the Baby Book

The baby book is an important journal of your child’s first years. In the baby book there are places to record all kinds of special events, from the first statistics about the birth to information about doctor’s visits and dental records.

It takes only a few minutes every couple of weeks to open up the baby book and see if there is anything new to be recorded. You will be glad when your little baby is all grown up that you took the time to write down all of those special moments. Don’t be one of those parents who never finished the baby book!

The trap many parents fall into is the second-child syndrome. Often parents are so overwhelmed with trying to care for two children that “small details” such as their new baby’s baby book, photos, etc. are overlooked. The slight is unintentional, but many second children resent the fact that there are never as many baby pictures of them. Or that Mom and Dad never got past the first page of their baby book.

If your older child is old enough, they might even be able to help with the journaling process. Let big brother take some pictures or write a story about the first days of his new little sister.

In emergency situations that nobody ever wants to think about, an up-to-date baby book can be a real help. If your child were to get lost or kidnapped, it would be a comfort to know just where to go to get the most recent photos and medical information.

Without all of these good reasons to create a baby book, the best reason is to have a keepsake of those precious early months and years. It is a time you will never forget and being able to share a little bit of your experience is a great gift for your child.
