The Mega Baby Store: Your Best Friend and Worst Enemyr
If you have never had a baby before, and this is your first, you are about to meet one of the greatest challenges to the new parent: going to the baby store. Not the store where you buy babies, silly, the store with all the STUFF that babies are supposed to have. At least this is what they will tell you at the baby store.
At the baby store they will tell you that every newborn needs “a layette,” which is another way of saying “more clothes than Mommy and Daddy combined.” You will see racks of clothes with built-in feet, without built-in feet, clothes that look like a bag with a hole in the top, and clothes that no newborn has any chance of wearing without immediately ruining.
At the baby store there are cribs galore, and bedding that is unbelievably plush, and innerspring mattresses. They will tell you that the beautiful quilt included with the baby bedding is never, under any circumstances, to be actually put in the crib. At the baby store, they will warn you that a quilt could KILL YOUR BABY!!!!!
At the baby store you will learn about all kinds of things that COULD KILL YOUR BABY!!! These things include not having a matching stroller, diaper bag, playpen, and highchair. (Okay, so not really.) But you see why the baby store is so seductive. Just when you think you have everything you need, there is one more cute outfit or item that seems really useful, and then your cart is full. And you don’t know how it got that way.
Truly, there are some things at the mega baby store that you might actually need, and that are difficult, if not impossible to find, elsewhere. But if you want to escape without breaking the bank, you may just want to visit the best baby store of all—the one online!
