Baby Shower Games
“You Want Me to Eat What?”

Navigating the Treacherous Land of Baby Shower Games
My first experience with shower games was for several different bridal showers. Those shower games were usually pretty harmless—things like “guess how many mints are in the bowl,” or “what does that utensil do?” Not bad. However, once I had crossed into Baby Shower Land, I could tell that the baby shower games were another thing entirely.
I began to hear horror stories about things that poor, unsuspecting moms-to-be were subjected to. Nervous about the baby shower games being planned for my upcoming party, I called my sister on the phone. “Jen, what kind of games are we playing at my shower?” “Fun ones,” she replied. Sensing her trademark evil grin, I got defensive.
“You are not going to measure my belly with toilet paper!”
“Oh, no, we’re not going to do that,” she answered.
So the day of the party, my sister began the festivities by announcing the first of the baby shower games. “This is a game of string. You will see if you can make a piece of string that will go around the mom-to-be’s belly. Stand up so we can all see!” She pulled me to my feet and my very large belly was examined by all present.
The next baby shower game was even worse. My sister doled out spoonfuls of awful-looking goo onto party plates. “You have to eat this and guess what it is.” Oh, no! Not the “guess the baby food” game!
My stomach turned. Sniff, sniff. Okay, I thought, this might just be fruit. I tasted. Okay, applesauce. Not too bad. I wrote down my answers.
The last dollop of goo made me gag. God, why did she have to play this baby shower game? Who would make their baby eat this? It tastes like glue but worse. Everyone in the room was groaning at the awful taste. Her eyes lit up with twisted glee at her private joke.
We demanded to know what Goo #4 was. “Macaroni and Cheese!” she announced. We all looked severely ill. I could imagine what the sheriff would say if he found us all. “Yep, poisoned by macaroni and cheese puree. We lose so many in baby shower games that way.”
It appears that planning baby shower games requires a sick sense of humor and a little creativity. You too can have a baby shower to remember with games like these! I certainly will never forget mine.
